Awareness session on the Mentoring service of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences & Technology
The awareness session on the mentoring service of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences & Technology was conducted by
the IQAC for Level I students on 09.10.2024. Academic staff members conducted friendly group discussions during the session. Students have been officially
allocated to their mentors for the continuous mentoring process. Meantime, the students' portfolio was introduced for keeping their records such as examination results,
extracurricular activities and achievements and advised to refer to the guidelines indicated in the portfolio.
Workshop on fire safety
The workshop on fire safety including a practical session on the use of fire extinguishers for evacuating different types of fire was conducted on 30 January 2024. The experienced resource persons from the Fire brigade, municipal council, Galle conducted the workshop. The objective of this workshop was to provide theoretical knowledge on fire safety guidelines, precautionary measures, functioning of safety extinguishers and practical involvement in using fire safety extinguishers. The target group was nonacademic staff members of the University and the financial support received from the Staff Development Centre of the University.
Awareness session on preparing Daily Lesson Plans
The session on preparing daily lesson plans for all the course units was conducted on 11
December 2023 by the IQAC of the Faculty. The common was used format for preparing the daily lesson plans. Participants prepared the lesson plans for their course units collectively with all contributors.
Awareness session on examination procedures in the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences & Technology
The session was conducted by the IQAC of the Faculty for the staff members who serve as invigilation and hall staff members. The IQAC members and the Heads of the Departments participated as resource persons and the session was held on 16th June 2023 at the conference room of the Faculty.
Workshop on laboratory safety
The workshop on Laboratory Safety was held on 18th January 2023 from 9.00 -12noon (virtual). The workshop is organized by Sri Lanka Accreditation Board.
Better Practice Approach for marking of answer scripts, entering the marks and other examination procedures
The workshop on Development of ‘Better Practice Approach for marking of answer scripts, entering the marks and other examination procedures’ for academic staff in FMST. The Faculty Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) conducted a half day workshop on 18th August 2022 for sharing experiences on paper marking and entering marks among the academic staff of the faculty. Then the IQAC of the faculty prepared a document on ‘Better Practice
Approach for marking of answer scripts, entering the marks and other examination procedures’ for the faculty.
Stakeholder meeting on Introducing a new of Degree programme of Marine Services and Resource Management
- To introduce a new degree to the field of “Marine Services and Resource Management”
- To increase the annual intake of students to the University up to 50
- To increase the student mobility between the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences & Technology and Faculty of Management and Finance (promote interdisciplinary studies)
