Society of Oceanography and Marine Geology
The Society of Oceanography and Marine Geology (SOMaG) was established in 08.03.2012 as
the first student society of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences & Technology,
University of Ruhuna, Matara.
The main objective of SOMaG is to improve the knowledge and experience of marine sciences
in the student community, which can cater the public society in ensuring a sustainable marine
ecosystem for our future generations.
All students and academic members in the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences &
Technology are eligible to become permanent or temporary members of the Society. Any eligible
person shall become a permanent member of the Society on payment to the Society of the
appropriate membership fee, the amount of which shall be determined annually by the office
bearers of the Society. Temporary members can get permanent membership by participation in
three activities conducted by the Society. Students who are selected for the Oceanography and
Marine Geology special degree program will be entitled to the permanent membership.
