Dean’s office of Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences & Technology offers numerous services to students and act as a source of information for other interested parties. The Dean’s office handles student registration, student recruitment and transfer & deals with legal aspects and coordinates all the departments in order of smooth continuation of Faculty’s duties. The web addition of the Dean's office is designed to minimize workload traffic while downloading forms and applications, viewing examination results and obtaining academic schedules, time tables and lecture notes etc;

The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences & Technology, founded in 2005 is unique in the
state University system of Sri Lanka. The faculty has spearheaded fisheries and marine sciences
education and research in the tertiary education system of the country. The faculty consists of
three academic Departments and, annually admits 210 students for the two Honours degree
programs; BScHons in Fisheries and Marine Sciences, and BScHons in Marine and Freshwater
Sciences. The faculty is highly conscious of the excellence of the academic programs and, uses
creative and innovative teaching approaches to make subject delivery alive to the students.
Course units of the degree programs have been designed to allow the students to acquire skills in
laboratory techniques, fieldwork, problem-solving, teamwork, leadership, and effective
communication to meet the needs of the country. Contents of the Course units are updated
constantly to provide the most up-to-date information to the undergraduates. The academic
programs of the Faculty are aligned with the Sri Lanka Qualification Framework (SLQF).
Further, the Faculty has taken every necessary step to maintain the standard and quality of the
degree programs through the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Internal Quality
Assurance Unit (IQAU) of the University, and Quality Assurance and Accreditation Council
(QAAC) of the University Grant Commission (UGC) of Sri Lanka. The students are nourished
by friendly and well-qualified academic staff who engages in high-quality research and
innovations while being deeply dedicated to undergraduate teaching. Academic and other related
activities of the faculty are supported by the well-trained Demonstrators, academic-supportive,
and non-academic staff members of the Faculty. The faculty also offers research degrees leading
to Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Fisheries and Marine
Sciences disciplines. At present, the faculty consists of 31 well-qualified academic staff, 03
academic supportive staff, 26 non-academic staff, 15 postgraduate students, and over 350
undergraduate students. With the vision of establishing futuristic research culture, the faculty has
already established several Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with leading international
Universities and institutes, most of which are expanding higher education opportunities for the
grandaunts. |
